Annotation
The aim of the course is to provide students an insight into the development of German drama from the 17th century to the present day. The course will not only introduce the specifics of each era and its contribution to the development of German drama, but also trace its relevance to contemporary dramatic production.
The main form of the seminar will be not only the interpretation of the texts, but also the analysis of excerpts recorded on the media or the analysis of currently staged performances. The first part of the seminars and lectures is devoted to a theoretical interpretation of the developmental tendencies in German drama in the context of the overall literary development and against the background of European political and spiritual developments.
The second part of the seminars will deal with modern drama and the analysis of concrete examples from contemporary stage practice. Aesthetic appropriation and analysis of selected dramatic works.
Development of communicative skills in relation to literary and cultural themes. A basic overview of contemporary theatre.
Observation of different ways of current interpretation of classical works in the country and in the world. The course will be continually supplemented by a range of up-to-date online materials on the Moodle e-learning system.
