Annotation

The course, which deals with the development of literature in the Federal Republic of Germany, the German Democratic Republic, Austria and Switzerland from the end of the 1960s to the present in the context of European and world literature, describes important milestones in literary development from the breakthrough year 1968 to the present, taking into account the radical social change after the reunification of Germany in 1990 and the transformation of the social climate in Austria and Switzerland. Literary events and cultural life in the various German-speaking countries were closely linked to the political development of Europe.

The course will attempt to explain the transformations of cultural development in recent decades on the main literary programmes (the transition from modernism to postmodernism, cultural syncretism, the emergence of alternative currents and programmes), their main representatives and works. The topic of the course will be the literature of generational reconciliation with fascism in the so-called books about fathers (Vaterbuch), women's literature, alternative literature (sexual minorities, prison literature, ecological literature, literature of the strong peace and anti-nuclear movement).
