Syllabus

Basis and principles of qualitative and quantitative research.

Science, paradigms, theoretical methods of science, inductive and deductive approaches.

Topic-problem-research question.

Constructs and concepts, role of hypotheses, validity of research.

Types of basic research plans, comparison of qualitative and quantitative procedures.

Ethical aspects of research.

Research sample selection. Techniques and tools for quantitative data acquisition, reliability.

Qualitative research, case studies in special education

Interpretation of analysis results. Research report results.

Annotation

The course prepares students for the independent performance of qualitative and quantitative research in pedagogy, in connection with the solution of the diploma task. It develops students' ability to formulate the problem, set the goals of the research investigation, choose adequate procedures and methods of processing consider the nature of outputs, benefits and eventually possibilities of using the results.

Principles of qualitative and quantitative research, paradigms, theoretical methods of science, inductive and deductive procedures and ethical aspects of research are presented. Qualitative and quantitative approaches to solving research problems in special education are compared.
