Annotation

The course introduces sociology of health and illness as a sociological subdiscipline that focuses on the social context of health and disease, and is therefore closely related to pedagogical theory and practice. Students are encouraged to understand the social dimension of health and disease, the interconnection of social systems (family, society) and processes that have an immediate impact on the functioning of the human system, the individual, including the contexts co-creating his life.

The course gives an overview of contemporary sociological interpretations of health and illness, describes the disease in the social context of the individual's relationship levels. Attention is also paid to the sociology of the physician and the role of the physician, the sociology of the patient and the role of the patient, the issue of health as a social institution, medicinalization of society and other relevant topics of contemporary sociology of health.
