1) revision of connected speech; syllable and phonotactics

2) nature and levels of words stress; placement of stress in complex words

3) placement of stress in compound words; stress shift

4) sentence stress

5) weak forms

6) rhythm

7) intonation - tones and their meanings; tone unit and its internal structure

8) intonation - accentual and grammatical function

Annotation

The course aims at exploring the suprasegmental features of English sound system, particularly the functioning of word stress, rhythm and intonation. Apart from that, phonemic transcription and stress placement will remain the focus of our practice.

The perception and production of selected pronunciation features will be part of training, too.
