Annotation

The course aims to acquaint students with the application of the principles of proper nutrition in practice, to orient in diagnostic methods in dietetics and be able to choose the right nutritional intervention with regard to various factors.

Students will be acquainted with the functioning of energy metabolism, the possibilities of determining energy dispensing during various activities and the optimal need for nutrients. Subsequently, they will be presented with current approaches in sports nutrition for individual types of exercise and the specifics of nutrition of certain groups of the population such as children, pregnant and lactating women or seniors. Furthermore, the subject will deal with diet therapy for various types of diseases. An overview will also be provided the most frequently used food supplements, including sports supplementation, in the form of a description of the supplement, its use, focus and enumeration of scientific studies dealing with the supplement. Students will also be introduced to available nutrition programs and databases, work with these tools and the possibility of compiling nutrition plans. Overall, students will gain an overview of how to adjust the diet with regard to a number of factors such as age and gender individuals, work and physical activity, the presence of disease or other lifestyle factors.
