Class at Faculty of Physical Education and Sport |
PFYB115N

Annotation

The subject gives students a deeper understanding of the genetic basis of heredity and its applications in sports and health. It includes the study of mechanisms by which genetic information determines phenomena such as genetic mutations and polymorphisms and examines how these genetic factors affect complex phenotypic characteristics of the organism, including physical fitness and athletic performance. The course presents the theoretical foundation of population genetics and provides tools for assessing genetic influences on complex traits associated with health and sports or physical activity.

Students acquire a solid knowledge base and the ability to apply genetic principles in practical aspects of sports training and health-oriented physical activities. The course includes an explanation and critical analysis of current commercial genetic tests available on the market, emphasising their relevance and practical use. Upon completing this subject, students will have a solid foundation for informed decision-making and potential counselling in the field of genomics in the context of physical activity and lifestyle.
