Sylabus

Lectures:

1. Ethics in the system of humanities. General and applied ethics. Definition of basic concepts. Introduction to the three basic ethical theories: virtue ethics, deontology and utilitarianism. Ethical thinking and argumentation.

2. Research ethics.

3. Definition of sport, sports rules and their function. Sport and integrity. Olympism and moral values in sport.

4. Values and virtues in sport. Sport and instrumentality. Commercialization of sport.

5. Discrimination in sport - sex/gender issues.

6. Ethical problems of sport of people with disability.

7. Summary. Seminars:

1. Problem of corruption, plagiarism.

2. Codes of ethic, application into sport.

3. Fair-play.

4. Cheating in sport and doping, corruption.

5. Discussion of a selected problem of commercialization of sport: e.g. (financial) rewarding children for sport.

6. Ethical problems of sports training of children.

7. Existentialist view: freedom and responsibility - application into sport.

Anotace

The course delineates the area of ethics with respect to philosophy and humanities. The course introduces basic ethical theories: virtue ethics, deontology and utilitarianism.

Focus is put on ethics in sport and main problems of this area are discussed: sports rules, fair play, cheating in sport, moral values in sport, ethical problems of sport of people with disability, ethical problems of training of children, etc.
