Syllabus

Lectures:

1. History of mountaineering - world, Europe.

2. History of Czech and Czechoslovak mountaineering. Connections to the world mountaineering.

3. Climbing geography, climbing rules - according to climbing areas.

4. Philosophy of mountaineering and its place in educational systems.

5. Biomechanics of climbing movement. Influence of climbing on movement system.

6. Climbing material (harnesses, carabiners, ropes, belaying devices), norms. Safety recommendations.

7. Evaluation of performance in sport climbing and mountaineering. Practice:

1. Climbing and belaying in a climbing pair (top rope), safety when climbing, reactions and commands, lowering. Basics of a climbing movement.

2. Training of the climbing technique, emphasis on safe belaying and cooperation of a climbing pair

3. Belaying with different belaying devices, top rope climbing, climbing routes of different difficulties - overhangs, little holds, small holds on a vertical wall.

4. Belaying the leader, clipping running belays, technique training.

5. Belayer?s activity during the leader?s fall, belaying the leader.

6. Rope work during belaying the leader, leading routes.

7. Credit lesson.

Annotation

Theory and practice of basics of climbing sports. Theoretical part includes history and historical connections of Czech and World mountaineering and climbing, basic information about materials.

Possibilities of using climbing in schools, in rehabilitation and educational programmes. The practical part offers learning basic skills needed for climbing on artificial climbing walls.
