* Lectures:

1. Introduction to the topic. Structural and functional changes in normal human aging.

2. Benefits and risks of physical activity and exercise in older age.

3. Evaluation methods in exercise programming in the elderly. Field-based and laboratory-based assessments.

4. General principles of an exercise program for elderly. Physical activity recommendations and contraindications. Exercise considerations for specific medical conditions.

5. Exercise programs for elderly - evaluation of particular exercise methods (yoga, Pilates, aquatics, Tai-chi, dance, etc.)

6. Exercise on chairs I. (simple breathing exercise, work with posture, joint movement, strengthening)

7. Exercise on chairs II. (work with posture, exercise with overballs, psychomotor training, coordination exercises) * Seminars:

1. Pre-exercise assessment in practice.

2. Non-specific exercise program for elderly people without aids.

3. Exercise program for elderly people with the use of aids e.g. overballs, gymballs, therabands, etc.

4. Exercise program for improvement of diaphragma pelvis function.

5. Exercise program as a prevention of falls.

6. Exercise program for people with Alzheimer disease.

7. Group exercise in practice - visit of exercise program for elderly people. Credit: - to be present (100 %) - oral examination

This subject aims to show possibilities of physical activity for elderly people, especially from the health point of view.

Successful student should be able to advise clients/patients about adequate physical activity as well as to lead group exercise units for elderly.
