Description of the Study Unit

This placement must offer challenging work with users and groups/communities in which the student gains professional expertise in guiding work processes towards social inclusion. The key contents may include work with adults, families, elderly people or youth at risk. Issues may include (for example) unemployment, marginalisation, or substance abuse.

The aims of the study unit are that the student:

- knows how to apply the processes of working with people

- know how to use the methods of participatory social work or community development especially in working with adults

- is able to adopt different roles and use different methods in professional practice with users

- is able to reflect on the work processes and critically evaluate own working methods and those of the placement organisation

- is able to reflect on personal and professional learning and the development of own professional identity

- Is able to link the processes and methods to the practice of diaconal social work and to the life of the church(es)

The contents of the study unit include:

- Work processes and methods

- Supervision in social work practice

- Personal and professional evaluation & reflection

- Personal and professional growth

- Reflection and report writing in professional work

Process of the Study Unit

Week 7

Mag. Tony Addy (Responsible Teacher)

Placement preparation & guidelines (2 hours)

Week 8-12, 14-17

Mag. Tony Addy ( Responsible teacher) & Placement Supervisor 260 hours practical work in the placement

Week 18 8 hours placement feedback session, responsible teacher

Week 19

Placement report assignment, 10 pages, 2 cr.
