Annotation
Eberhard Jüngel (1934) has been for half a century the perennial star in the famous trio of German theologians "Jüngel-Moltmann-Pannenberg". The most creative pupil of Karl Barth was on the same time quick to learn pupil of Rudolf Bultmann and a sensitive partner of Karl Rahner.
Jüngel is expert on Luther and Schleiermacher and on ancient Greek philosophy and German idealism. His book "Justification: the heart of Christian faith: a theological study with an ecumenical purpose" (1. edition 1998, english translation 2001), which Jüngel not intended for professional theologians, reacts, in the atmosphere after releasing of The Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (1999), to cheap ecumenical optimism through the new attempt to interpreting of the main article of reformation "by which the church stands or falls".
The mature book will reward demanding readers with the pleasure in the beauty of theologizing.
