The course focuses on three inter-related issues. First, sociology of conflict and revolutions (Coser, Dahrendorf, Ch. W. Mills, Ch. Tilly). Second, selected theories of terrorism based on empirical research (M. Juergensmeyer, R. Pape, P. Krueger etc.). Third, sociological approaches toward war (origins of war, war and gender, war ideology vs. small group cohesion etc.).
