YBA245

Syllabus

Lectures by internationally recognized ethnomusicologists will be held in the mornings. During these lectures, students will acquire a basic overview of regions where Roma have contributed to the creation of distinctive musical cultures/musics. The second purpose of the course is to introduce topics connected especially (though not exclusively) with the study of music(s) of underprivileged groups: questions of attribution, negotiation between musicians and audience, stereotyping, musical representation, cultural sensitivity.
