A practicum ”lab” ensemble accompanying the String Band Seminar. We will learn and perform material fromvarious global string band practices, including some local Czech and Moravian musics, bluegrass county and folk, Latin American norteno/frontera, son jarocho, Indonesian kroncong, afropop, blues, Scandinavian dance tunes, Balkan musics, as well as versions of “European/Western Art Music.” Music-making experience recommended, participation in the related Ensemble strongly recommended. We will meet for weekly rehearsals and for 2-3 “listening evening” lab performances through the semester.
