In these four books we will see not only origins and history of cities and how they look but also their role in culture/civilisation. Except for reading and discussing the texts I prepare also some pictorial presentation on cities we are going to discuss.

Annotation

In the course we are going to look at history of city (and history of that history of cities) through reading some key texts of 20 th century dealing with history of cities.

The winter semester 2016/2017 we are going to read Peter Hall's book Cities in Civilisation

We look at real classic Lewis Mumford and his "City in history", than look at Spiro Kostof’s "The city shaped" than to Rem Koolhaas "Delirious New York" and last but not least at Peter Hall’s "Cities in civilization".

In these four books we will see not only origins and history of cities and their outer and inner looks but also their role in culture/civilisation. Except for reading and discussing the texts I prepare also some pictorial presentation on cities we are going to discuss.

The course is continuation from summer semester 2014/2015 but all new students are kindly welcomed! The new course is an independent whole.
