This is a process writing course which will focus on the process for writing an argumentative essay.
The course will follow the writing process(introduction, main body and conclusion, academic style of writing) through a step-by-step process by having the students spend the entire semester writing a long essay that will have to be at least 1000 words. The students should choose their argumentative essay topic very carefully before the class begins since they will be responsible for arguing the topic through the use of critical thinking. The essay will also include some research so it cannot be based purely on the student's experience or opinion. The course could be considered beginning preparation towards giving the students the skills and experience to write an argumentative essay. These skills could be applied towards writing their bachelor work later in their academic career.
The focus of the course will be developing the persuasive context of the essay that the students will write as a final assignment. This will be based on discussion within the class, and will stem from the conviction students feel about the topic they write about, so it is important to attend the course regularly and to také part in, or have a critical ear towards, the discussions which také place. The students who apply for the course should be advanced-level writers since there will not be enough time to develop their grammatical proficiency. There are weekly assignments. These assignments will have to be printed out and turned in on time. No excuses for late work will be accepted. It should also be stressed that there is absolutely no tolerance for plagiarism of any kind. There is an attendance requirement of 80%. Illness also counts as an absence. The class will start on time. The students must arrive on time. No excuses for coming late will be accepted. The students must stay in class the entire 80 minutes.
