Syllabus

The art of translation seen as a process of conveying messages across linguistic and cultural barriers. By adopting a translator's view, we can develop three qualities essential to any language-based interaction, ie. accuracy, clarity, and flexibility.

Translating helps enhance understandig not only of the workings of an acquired language, but - and even more importantly - of one's own mother tongue.

Annotation

Through detailed analyses of translated texts students are introduced to basic issues of translation. By interpretative comparison of Czech and English texts they gain insight into essential differences between the two languages and learn to bridge them.

Built on extensive experience combined with theoretical grounding, the course develops mastery of both languages.
