Kniha nabízí ucelený pohled na problematiku genderových vztahů z pera jednoho z nejvýznamnějších sociologů 20. století. Autor vychází ze známých feministických teorií, jejichž platnost demonstruje na Kabylské společnosti.
Zároveň nabízí řadu vlastních konceptů, které pomáhají pochopit zdánlivě neměnné uspořádání genderových vztahů v naší společnosti, jež se vyznačuje nerovným postavením žen v porovnání s muži. Autor v ní uplatňuje své originální sociologické koncepty a svůj původní etnologický výzkum - s využitím dřívějších výzkumů feministických - k mimořádně pronikavému výkladu systému mužské dominance.

This is one of the "Important Books" listed for the guided reading programme at the Faculty of Humanities; as an integral part of the undergraduate liberal curriculum, this programme offers an opportunity to enhance students' knowledge in the humanities and social sciences, and thus helps the students not only to improve their preparation for the compulsory comprehensive exams, but also to gain deeper insight into the subject matters which they pursue in their final bachelor's thesis.
