Reading Seminar in Phenomenology II.

Class at Faculty of Humanities |
YMFPR173

Annotation

In this reading-seminar we will occupy ourselves with Slavoj Žižek's main dialectical-materialist work: "Sex and the

Failed Absolute", published in 2019. We will not only explore the Hegelian and Lacanian core of Žižek's contribution to the newly inflamed debate on the possibility and impossibility of realist positions or ontologies in the 21st century; in our exegesis we will also learn to understand the subjectphilosophical, socio-political and cultural-theoretical consequences of his postmodern left-wing Hegelianism. The acquisition of the book is recommended, but not mandatory. - Please note in connection with this reading-seminar that in the module

"Research Seminar" I offer a basic course on "Metaphysics and the New Realisms", in which an overview of basic metaphysical-ontological knowledge is discussed, which is a direct reference to Žižek's work. Both seminars thus refer to each other, but do not have to be taken together.
