Body as a medium I. - Seminar

Class at Faculty of Humanities |
YMM045

Annotation

We belong to a culture that encourage us to identify our selves rather with our minds than with our bodies. We rather believe that we are the collection of our thoughts, or the memory and the result of our wills, desires and aims. We would rather assess to have then to be a body.

Still the body is the sign of our hic et nunc, becoming for first the medium for any inter-subjective communication and the condition of possibility of all interaction between individuals.

The seminar aims to explore these functions of the body, understanding it as a medium at work in different fields: social life (non verbal communication, fashion, marketing); arts (theatre, performance, dance) and religion

(collective rituals, divination, healing practices).

Students are welcome to suggest fields of interest and to propose a dissertation on a theme of their choice.
