The course of Legal History of Churches starts with the Moses’ Law, its origins and developments. It distinguishes between the written Torah, as contained in the Biblical Canon, and the verbal Torah, as reflected in both parts of the Talmud. The course focuses on individual parts of the written Torah, as these were codified. In detail it deals with social legislation of the Ancient Israel, the protection of personal rights and other legal branches. It describes the origins of the Talmud - Mishna and Gemara and post-Talmudic writings.

The second part of the subject concentrates on the relationship of Christianity and the Roman state. It discusses sources of information on Primary Church and its legal order including the development of the Biblical Canon. It notices legal parts of writings of Apostolic Fathers, Church Men of Letters, and Church Fathers. It describes in detail the origins of monkshood and the history of Councils, individual types of Caesaro-Papism, institutions of the ownership of Churches, and their transformation into the Patronate law.

Lectures discussing the period of High Medieval Ages provide the background of the Reformation Movement, God’s Peace, of the exemption of monasteries until the canonical investiture fights, of concordat(e)s and monastic reforms. The lectures consider the development of Canon Procedural Law and describe all important sources and collections of Church Law, in particular Grecian’s Decree, old compilations and all parts of Corpus Iuris Canonici. Inquisition, Pope Schism and Concilliarism are discussed in relation to Late Middle Ages.

Following the chapter on the origins of Galicanism individual streams of Protestant Reformation in Europe and America are lectured, as well as Protestant and Catholic Jurisdictionalism in the Absolutist Era.

Final chapters of the course focus on Modern Era characterized by separation and coordination systems. After the explanation of the Post-Trident Pope Centralism and Iuridism consequential changes leading to a deep reform of Canon Law, the relationship between the state and the Church in totalitarian regimes and democratic states are discussed. Significant parts are devoted to legal consequences of Ecumenical Movements from its beginning and to the changes of Concordat(e) Law after 2nd Vatican Council.
