Fall of the chancellor Erhard

Abstract

Author explores three years (1963-1966), when chancellor Ludwig Erhard was leading the government in the Federal Republic Germany. The article is focused on looking for reasons that led to fall of Erhard.

Author also describes Erhard's relationship to his predecessor Konrad Adenauer. Included is also the description of relations between France and Federal Republic Germany.

Special attention is given to relationship between Erhard and the United States. Actually, it was the failure in talks with Americans that led to negative picture of Erhard at the end of his reign.

Erhard placed a big trust into relations with Washington. He was part of the so called atlantic wing of the german politicians.

The other one was the so called gaullist wing. One of the goals of this article is also to describe, how the political scene in the Federal Republic Germany was divided.
