Abstract

This paper juxtaposes two contradictory concepts, the Manichean polarity and Bhabha´s notion of liminality and hybridisation of cultures, and explores their artistic reflections in two major late 20th century African American novels, Oxherding Tale by Charles Johnson and Tar Baby by Toni Morrison.
