Abstract

The study focuses on the role which clothing and care for personal appearance play for children in elementary schools, in particular in terms of building and expressing their identity. The research methods used in the study are based mainly on the symbolic interaction perspective and psychoanalytical concept by J.

C. Flügel.

The very existence and use of clothing, establishes three fundamental relationships: the relationship between the body and the clothing, the clothing and the society, and the clothing and self-expression. These relations will be followed on the theoretical and on the practical-research level.
