Polished silver solid amalgam composite electrode was tested as an electroanalytical sensor for voltammetric determination of selected biologically active nitro compounds using 2-nitrofluorene, 5-nitrobenzimidazole, picric acid, and metronidazole as model compounds. The optimum conditions have been investigated in aqueous or methanolic-aqueous media containing Britton-Robinson buffer.
It was found that this electrode can be used for direct current voltammetric and differential pulse voltammetric determination of micromolar concentrations of 2-nitrofluorene, picric acid and metronidazole, whereas an attempt to determine 5-nitrobezimidazole reproducibly was not successful.
