Author explored urban - rural cultural exchanges on 3 peripheral cases and compared them: (1) administrative unit Midi-Pyrenees, historical territory of Gascony, and its heart Gers in south-west France. (2) in Czech republic: Kraj Vysočina, Czech Moravian Highlands and particularly region around town Třebíč. (3) in east of Slovakia: also administrative unit Prešovský kraj, historical defined Šariš and region around Dukla pass - towns of Bardejov and Svidnik. The hypotheses claimed that these cases are not unique, there are similar types of regions elsewhere in Europe. They may differ in type of urban structure, or in way how they deal with their misfortunes resulting out of peripheral position.
Differences, similarities and analogical situations are in focus of the analysis.
