Abstract
The introduces a contemporary terminology (stone, epitaphium, board, Monumentum), which illustrates by many examples. It then verifies the appropriateness and adequacy of current terminology and highlights some of its questionable moments.
Incorrect use of terms is finally illustrated on two monuments: the first is the cover plate of the tomb of Písečná (maybe from the 70s of 16th century),whose type can be recognized from a number of functional details. The second is the epitaph of Vilém Trčka of Lípa (+ 1569) from Opocno, whose original form is thoroughly analyzed.
The correct specification of the typology was made possible only through visual source: painted epitaph of the son of Jan Jetřich of Žerotín of the same church (the Holy Trinity). Further identifies the typical composition of figural sepulchral monuments and their variants.
The links constantly demonstrates the various typological context and shows some characteristic themes that occurred across the territory of the Czech Kingdom.
