The article is concerned with one of the central concepts of medieval metaphysics, namely that of analogy of being, and with the problem of its origins in the late antiquity. It shows that particularity of the medieval concept consists in identification of the analogy with the term of 'focal meaning' (pros hen), by means of whose Aristotle tried to solve the problem of multivocality of 'being', and in its application on the theological problem of predication of 'being' about various ontological levels, viz.
God and his creation.
