Abstract

Construction of a complete denture starts with preliminary impressions of the edentulous ridges. Alginate is the preferred material for taking preliminary impressions.

Although preliminary impression is taken only for producing an auxiliary working model, its quality significantly affects the subsequent procedures in complete denture construction including the production of individual impression trays, their correction and making the final impression. This article describes the technique of double impression with alginate, which can easily improve the quality of preliminary impressions.
