Abstract

Oral contraceptive use is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism. It´s valid not only for oral contraceptives of II. and III. generation, but also for contraceptives containing drospirenone.

There are exist the different opinions about magnitude of the risk in drospirenone, if it is as in II. or as in III. generation. There are mentioned the studies – the Dutch Mega Study, Danish National Cohort Study, Euras in the article with variable conclusions concerning risk.

Methodological shortcomings of these studies are discussed in the article.
