Images of Vietnamese Identity in Hanoi Museums

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2009

Abstract

The article is about three museums of Hanoi, which are in close affinity to the Vietnamese version of modern identity, or rather to the concepts of history and nation. These museums are the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the Vietnamese Museum of Ethnology and the National Museum of Vietnamese History.

Wider range of the concepts named is not examined in the article. The text preoccupies itself with the three named museums only, shaping these in three following pictures, aiming to establish a threefold narrative, structurally opening field to be penetrated by wider discourses, without modulating their coming out by senseless shortcut judgements.

The sense lies in opening topics, rather than depicting them. That means creation of a model, leaving passage to discourse formations being held by the barriers of political judgement.
