Abstract
The author thinks of role of communicative competence at Czech schools, and that not only in the foreign language teaching but first of all in the class instruction of mother tongue. In this case communicative competence must also fullil a particular propaedeutic function - i.e. to prepare the ground for foreign language instruction.
