Scholarly literature has made several general statements about the difference between the diminutivity tools in the Czech and Bulgarian language. The differences concern the derivation tool repertoire as well as grammatical characteristics.
Other variations can be found in the involvement of different word classes in diminutivity derivation and in the derivation frequency. However thorough explorations have not been undertaken to this date.
Material from the Czech-Bulgarian parallel corpus (taking into account its current structural and range limitations) verifies the current findings on the basis of comparison between the translator interpretations’ of the diminutives included in a text.
