This review summarizes the reports on occurrences of fullerenes in both the terrestrial and extraterrestrial environments. A very strong emphasis is placed on stability of fullerenes.
In contrast to most of the previously published works, which usually deal with the stability only in terms of possible fullerene survival in geological history, we also address the role of their (photo)chemical resistance in the extraction procedures. Possible ways of fullerene formation in particular localities are discussed with respect to local conditions and compared with the known laboratory processes.
