Mindfulness in psychological research and in clinical practice

Abstract

Mindfulness has become the subject of numerous scientific studies recently. In the first part of this article, mindfulness is defined as a mental faculty of unbiased observing, noticing, recognizing and remembering the experienced mental phenomena.

Other concepts of mindfulness are mentioned briefly here. The second part provides a survey of mindfulness-based psychotherapies.

The last part features the most important researches concerning mindfulness and measures of mindfulness. The study also provides references to professional literature relating to the subject, describes the current developments in the application of mindfulness in psychotherapy, presents some problems of research and outlines the future perspective of the application of mindfulness in psychological theory and in clinical practice.
