Abstract
The paper is devoted to issues of usage of wikis in science and scientific communication. It focuses on issues of quality of information and implied the possibility of usage of wikis in the field of library and information science.
The first section gives the introduction to changes in scientific communication at the turn of the 20th and 21st century, the definition of the term wiki and the most important features of wikis. The following section is devoted to issues of information quality management in wikis.
On example of model of quality management in Wikipedia is introduced one way of dealing with quality of information in wikis. In the next section four basic levels of possibility of usage of wikis in science are outlined in general and also with examples of existing implementation.
The following part focuses on the options and existing implementations of usage of wikis in the field of library and information science. The final section provides a summary of all conclusions.
