Citizenship education of the adults in Europe - its nature, functions and chosen national examples

Abstract

The study starts from a conceptual clarification of several notions - mainly globalization and (active) citizenship - as a prerequisite for the orientation of current citizenship education. Next goals and objectives of citizenship education of the adults are discussed in detail.

The second part of the study describes the shape, development and prospects of citizenship education in chosen European countries and it also focuses on the politics of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
