Abstract

The chapter brings the reader to the issue of postmodernism and its transformation in Ukrainian literature (the authors of so-called "Stanislav phenomenon"). The “Stanislav phenomenon” is an arguable and controversial literary term encompassing the bulk of cultural and literary phenomena concentrated in the town of Ivano-Frankivsk (former Stanislav) in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The aim of the article is to outline the phenomenon in general terms (e.g. its decentralizing role in the contemporary literary process of Ukraine) and to analyze the principal elements of writing of representative authors (Yuri Andrukhovych, Taras Prokhasko, Yuri Izdryk), i. e. „affiliation with Western postmodernism“, „geographism“, „carnival character of writing“, „apocalyptic motives“ etc.
