Analysis of surface water quality evolution in context of land use changes in upper Vltava river basin

Abstract

The review deal with historical land use changes caused by changes in agricultural policy of the state and their impact on water quality evolution in selected watersheds (IV. order) in the upper Vltava river basin area. Despite slightly decreasing trend in nitrates concentration, the issue of surface water pollution by nitrates remains actual.

Identification of non-point source areas is rather difficult due to expressive variability of nutrients forms and content in soils. Analysis of selected watersheds in terms of individual land use classes distribution in different time period and analysis of water quality monitoring results approve a significantly positive influence of grassing on surface water quality.

Data acquired from analysis of aerial photographs, satellite images and orthophotomaps was used in the study. Water quality data was obtained from monitoring on hydrometric profile of ZVHS.
