Diagnosis of the diseases caused by Rothia dentocariosa

Abstract

Rothia dentocariosa is a part of resident flora of oral cavity. It is an etiologic agent of various endogenic infections including septic ones.

Mainly endocarditis is very important. Here rothias can by isolated from hemocultures.

Rothias have to be correctly identified and the definite result properly interpreted. Identification of rothias is based on the knowledge of their growth, morphologic and phenotypic characteristics.

Optimal results of identification can be achieved with API CORYNE bio Mérieux. The results can by confirmed by sequencing of 16rRNA gene.

High dose therapy with penicillin G is a therapy of choice.
