Abstract
The paper focuses on information science and information profession issues related to the education. Information literacy and information education development in the environment of various information institutions appears to be one of the crucial topics.
Educational aspects of the information science are placed in the context of other scientific disciplines and the need of an interdisciplinary discussion and cooperation is emphasized. The new concepts are defined, describing roles and competences of teaching librarians.
The role of information professionals in school and academic libraries is described in detail. Educational activities in the information industry environment are mentioned as well.
The closing chapter focuses on LIS education and the way library schools prepare their graduates to provide education and instruction.
