Abstract
The article points at three problems that are within the scope of literary studies of the play The Spice Merchant: the questions 1) of the nature of the text (on the level of genesis and preservation), 2) of the genre, and 3) of the authorship, resp. the authorial intention and the functional use of the poetic langage.
