Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to verify the effect of 21 weekly methodological programme of physical excercise to the chest expansion and the subjective perception of pain in individuals with ankylosing spondylitis. It was a single blind study.

The study included men and women with the diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (N = 30). Chest expansion was evaluated by using anthropometric measurements of chest circumference at maximum inspiration and after maximum expiration.

Subjective perception of pain was assessed by visual analogue scale. Due to the programme of physical excercise a significant increase in chest expansion and reduction of pain intensity occurred in the experimental group in contrast to the control group.

It was verified that the programme of physical excercise has significant effect on reduction of intensity of pain perception and increase of chest expansion in individuals with ankylosing spondylitis.
