On the form of the Spanish verb

Abstract

The article examines the form of Spanish verbs on the grounds of the typological theory developed by Vladimír Skalička. The focus of the study is on the morphematics of the verb, but due attention is also paid to the relation between the form and the function of the Spanish verb.

The study describes the influence of the Skaličkian language types on the verbal system, concluding that while in the system of verb formation the role of agglutination is decisive, in the other parts of the verb system the inflectional type predominates, although the role of the isolating type is important as well. The agglutinating and introflectional types are represented as well but their role is not systemic.
