Perception of Czech in noise: Onset and coda in monosylabic words.

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2010

Abstract

The paper is based on the results of perceptual test focused on recognition of Czech samples in noise conditions. It is concentrated on the analysis of consonants in the onset and coda of monosyllabic words from the point of their resistance or substitution.

The stability of consonants in both the positions and on two noise levels is compared. The results show large-scale variability in the listeners’ evaluation of single items, nevertheless they imply certain conclusions regarding the articulation characteristics relevant for the discrimination of the consonant phonemes in Czech.
