The author presents a relatively new JPEG2000 format, which, in terms of memory institutions, is currently a very promising alternative for storing and distributing digital representations of analog documents produced by digitization. He visually demonstrates the use of specially selected parts of JPEG2000 specification, which are relevant from the perspective of memory institutions.
Additionally, it sets out a proposal for the real workflow of The National Library of the Czech Republic, using the basic specification of this format. The paper concludes a general summary of the advantages and disadvantages of JPEG2000 format.
