Abstract

The way TV newscasters speak provides a highly influential model for others. The article summarizes the results of a survey on how non-professional listeners evaluate newsreaders of the public TV channel ČT1.

The overall success rate of the newsreaders shows they are not considered to be professional, skilled speakers by listeners. There are significant weaknesses which negatively affect the intelligibility of their speech.
