The Continuity, Appropriation and Repetition: On the Czech Surrealism as a permanent

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2010

Abstract

The constituent characteristics of second – and third-generation Czech surrealism is a strategy of appropriating not only the objects, but also the attitudes of the historical avant-garde. In this aesthetics of appropriation, Anja Tippner sees a substantial difference with the importance of appropriation in Western European and American art and literature.

The strategy of ‘recycling’, of appropriating and, at the same time, reinterpreting is not the expression of a crisis in the context of Czech surrealism, for it remains associated with a reflective appropriation.
