Smetana's Plzeň/Pilsen? : Remarks about the role of the local elites in the construction of local, regional and over-regional identity during the 19th century.

Abstract

Example of the city Plzeň is used by author´s description of the effect of modernization process on the transformation of local identity as well as its relation to the regional and over-regional identity. This study deals with the shift of the concept of Plzeň "trues" to the catholic church, into the concept of "black" and contemporary even "czech" city, deeply hit by industrialization and modern national identity before 1914.
